Why Compost?

                            Compost

 * Improves the soil by adding organic materials
 * Enhances the fertility of the soil
 * Retains soil moisture, requires less watering
 * Saves money on commercial fertilizers
 * Keeps organic materials out of landfills

To get started you need a composting bin or an area where you can pile your compost.  You can choose from a number of styles and sizes to purchase, you can make your own, or you can just utilize a pile in an out of the way place in your yard.  You don't need any special equipment to begin.  Composting occurs naturally.  Just heap your materials to compost in a pile and let nature take over.  To speed up the composting process, turn the materials frequently and the keep the soil moist.
The compost pile should not have an odor, nor will it attract wildlife if properly maintained.  If an odor occurs, it is because too much green material was added at once.  Correct this by adding brown material such as; leaves, straw, sawdust and wood chips.  Then, turn the compost.  If you avoid putting meat, oil and dairy products into the compost pile, wildlife will not be attracted to it.
In a few months you will have nice organic compost to add to your garden.
